Gabriel Butterfield is the eldest son of the late, great Chicago Harmonica player Paul Butterfield, the first white Harmonica player to develop a style original and powerful enough to place him in the pantheon of Blues greats. Gabriel grew up on the road, on tour with his father; the music is literally in his blood. Like his father, music is the driving passion of Gabriel's life.  In 2012, again residing in Woodstock, New York, Gabriel launched multiple projects, a documentary film on Paul Butterfield, and a working band that celebrates his father's music. The band has two configurations that share a handpicked line-up. The Woodstock-based 5-piece core band is fronted by Blues Brothers Band lead singer/harp player Rob Paparozzi, and includes Pete Levin, Jimmy Eppard and Jim Curtin, collectively veterans of Annie Lennox, Levon Helm, Miles Davis, Paul Simon, The Band, Joe Louis Walker, Gil Evans and Orleans. The larger band is fronted by Guitarist/vocalist Jimmy Vivino, band leader on the Conan O'Brien TV show, and features Steve Guyger, one of the industry's top traditional harmonica players. "These seasoned music veterans have all come together in mutual respect for my father and to honor one of music’s legendary pioneers and influences, for which I am very touched and forever grateful,” states Gabriel.

Gabriel Butterfield and Thom Pollard have initiated an Indiegogo campaign to raise funds to complete PHASE ONE of the biographical documentary on the life and music of Paul Butterfield. Phase One will document the early years of Butterfield's life: his early years and emergence in Chicago, then onward toward his years in Woodstock, NY. Album releases during that period, which will be used in the film, include The Butterfield Blues Band, the seminal East-West, The Resurrection of Pigboy Crabshaw, In My Own Dream, Paul Butterfield Blues Band Live, and his Woodstock, NY based band Better Days.
